Is Voclin free?
Yes. Every lesson, tool and game is free and there is no account to create. Progress is saved in your browser, so you can pick up where you left off on the same device.
Do I need to know phonetic symbols to start?
No. The first section teaches you the symbols you need, and the sound chart lets you hear each one as you learn it.
Which sounds does the course cover?
All 44 English phonemes: short and long vowels, diphthongs, nasals, stops, fricatives, affricates, approximants, digraphs and blends. It then covers stress, rhythm, reduction, connected speech and intonation.
How long is a unit?
Ten to fifteen minutes. You read a short explanation, practise it, then take a unit assessment. Score 80% or higher to unlock the next unit.
Will this remove my accent?
That is not the goal. An accent is not a problem to erase. Voclin works on the sounds that stop people understanding you, so you are clear without sounding like someone else.
